• <br /> t <br /> O (W <br /> systematically and effectively prevent the contamination or pollution of potable <br /> water systems. <br /> 1.3 DEFINITIONS <br /> The following terms shall have the stated meanings: <br /> A. ARproving Authority means the Manager of the BWU or his designated <br /> agent(s). <br /> B. Auxiliary Water Subtly means any water supply, on or available to the property <br /> other than the Water System. <br /> C. AVB means Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker. <br /> D. AWWA means American Water Works Association. <br /> E. Backflow means flow of water or other liquids, mixtures or substances, under <br /> positive or reduced pressure into the distribution pipes of a potable water supply <br /> from any source other than its intended source. <br /> F. Backflow Prevention Assembly ("backflow prevention assembly ' or <br /> • Assemble means a mechanical backflow preventer assembly constructed with <br /> shut-off valves, and provided as a complete assembly by a single manufacturer, <br /> used to prevent the backflow of contaminants or pollutants into the Water System. <br /> The assembly must have the approval of the Foundation for Cross Connection <br /> Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California, the State <br /> of Arkansas Department of Health, and the City. <br /> G. Backflow Prevention Device means a mechanical device used to prevent the <br /> backflow of water. <br /> H. BX11ass means any arrangement of pipes, plumbing, or hoses designed to divert <br /> the flow around an installed device or assembly through which the flow normally <br /> passes. <br /> I. Certified Testing Technician means a person certified by the Arkansas <br /> Department of Health as an Assembly Testing Technician. <br /> J. Certified Repair Technician means a person certified by the Arkansas <br /> Department of Health as an Assembly Repair Technician. <br /> K. Lill means the City of Batesville, Arkansas. <br /> • 2 <br />
