RESOLUTION <br /> Whereas, the citizenship of our City and this general area have <br /> long been aware of the historic significance of the old Stone 'Bridge <br /> over Salado Creek, which is located on the old route of State Highway <br /> 14 between Batesville and Newport, and have hoped to preserve it both <br /> as an excellent example of the bridge-builders art aridl as a valuable <br /> relief crossing in emergency; and <br /> Whereas, the efforts of local agencies and organizations to such end <br /> have been unavailing to the end of preserving same both as a bridge and <br /> and as landmark worthy of nation-wide interest and attraction; therefore, <br /> Be It Resolved by the City Council of the amity of Batesville, Ark- <br /> ansas, in session assembled on October 9, 1956, that the Arkansas Highway <br /> Coonission be petitioned and requested to restore to the State Highway <br /> System that portion of the old route of State highway �4 that includes <br /> said old Stone Bridge, that said BridLe be reconditioned in keeping with <br /> its original lines and structure, and that there be developed thereabouts <br /> a small roadside park and recreational areal all in keeping with such old <br /> structure and its surroundings. <br /> Adopted; October 1956. <br /> APFROVL5� Mayor.. <br /> ttestCity Clerk. <br /> 6 A, 9DZL <br />
