MINUTES OF COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 8, 2000
The Batesville City Council met for its regular meeting on February 8, at
5:30 P.M. at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting.
Councilmember Insell gave the invocation. Upon roll call, all the council
answered present. Also present were the City Clerk and the City Attorney.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the previous
meeting. Councilmember Pectol seconded and all voted for.
Councilmember Cargill moved to approve the prepared agenda and
Councilmember Ford seconded. All voted for.
REPORT BY SHERIFF'S OFFICE CONCERNING WRECK OF METRO CAR
OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS ON 1-22-2000.
Sheriff Ron Webb said that due to a scheduling error made by Lieutenant
John Ferguson, at the time of the accident there was not a county officer on duty.
Sheriff Webb said that the County has since hired two officers which should help
in the scheduling. Mr. Webb said the car was old and was going to be junked
soon. The city received $1,839.00 from the insurance company for the vehicle.
The council asked the Sheriff why he had to get approval from the Quorum Court
to fill a Metro position that has already been budgeted for. The Sheriff said a
hiring freeze was put into place two years ago and he was instructed to go to the
Quorum Court before hiring anyone. The council expressed their concern
regarding this practice by the County. Mayor Biard said the council would take a
look at the Interlocal Agreement after the March 23rd sales tax election.
MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
