MINUTE OF COUNCIL <br /> SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 <br /> The Batesville City Council met in regular session on September 11, at 5:30 PM <br /> at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember <br /> Ford gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers answered <br /> present: Dana Bone, Jim Cargill, R.L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Gerald Gaither, Jim <br /> Mitchum, Jerry Pectol and Jim Watkins. Also present were the City Clerk Denise <br /> Johnston and the City Attorney Scott Stalker. <br /> Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. <br /> Councilmember Cargill seconded and all voted for. <br /> Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda. Councilmember <br /> Gaither seconded and all voted for. <br /> REQUEST FROM SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT <br /> Sheriff Dan Johnson and Chief Deputy John Hilburn addressed the council <br /> regarding a grant proposal for additional officers. Chief Hilburn said he was in the <br /> process of applying for a STOP Grant which is a grant to hire policemen and equipment <br /> dedicated to family violence prevention. The total grant will be $272,695.79 with a 25% <br /> match by the city and county. Mr. Hilburn said city and county match can include in- <br /> kind work. He said with the city's approval, he would apply for 4 officers (1 investigator <br /> and 3 deputies) and 4 vehicles with all the necessary equipment. Two officers and cars <br /> will be assigned to the county and two officers and cars to the city. The county gave the <br /> approval for the grant application last night. The Chief said the way the figures look <br /> now, the city will be obligated to about $13,215.00 but this figure could be a little higher. <br /> He said the best part of the program is if the monies are not distributed next year for the <br />
