CONSIDER THE 2002 BUDGET <br /> The council was given a copy of the latest figures for the 2002 budget <br /> proposal. Sheriff Johnson addressed the council and asked for an additional <br /> $23,000. for a car to fulfill a grant match that was proposed to the council last <br /> October. The grant will provide for 4 officers to work in the area of violence <br /> against women. Sheriff Johnston said that he will instruct the new officers that if <br /> the grant is not renewed next year, they will be laid off. Councilmember Bone <br /> moved to add the request to the budget and Councilmember Watkins seconded. <br /> All voted for except Councilmembers Ford and Mitchum. After a discussion, <br /> Mayor Biard read an ordinance to adopt the 2002 budget. Councilmember <br /> Watkins moved to suspend the rules and place the ordinance on the second <br /> reading. Councilmember Cargill seconded and the roll call count was 7 for and 1 <br /> (Ford) against. The Mayor read the ordinance for the second reading and <br /> Councilmember Watkins moved to further suspend the rules and place the <br /> ordinance on the third reading. Councilmember Cargill seconded and the roll call <br /> count was 7 for and 1 (Ford) against. The Mayor read the ordinance for the final <br /> reading and Councilmember Cargill moved to adopt. The ordinance <br /> was given #2002-1-3. <br /> CEMETERY GUIDELINES <br /> The council reviewed the proposed cemetery guidelines for Oaklawn <br /> Cemetery. Councilmember Mitchum asked the council to approve the guidelines <br /> in principal and he would bring back a completed brochure for final approval. <br />
