. , PW <br />ORDINANCE NO.,57 / <br />R <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR AND REGULATING AUTOMATIC <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNALS, TRAFFIC SIGNS AND MARKINGS, <br />AND P SCRIBING PEN, LTIES FOR NON COMPLIANCE THEREWITH. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS: <br />Section 1. The words "vehicular traffic" wherever appearing in this ordinance <br />r <br />shall be construed to mean the traffic of any kind of vehicle, cycle, animal,iwoom <br />or instrumentality used for and/or in the transportation of either persons <br />or property. <br />Section 2. That whenever and wherever within said City traffic is controlled by <br />any automatic traffic control signal exhibiting the words "Go", "Caution", or <br />"Stop", or exhibiting different colored lights successively, said words and <br />lights shall indicale as follows: <br />(A) Green alone or "Go". <br />1. Vehicular traffic facing the signal may proceed straight through <br />or turn right or left unless a sign at such place prohibits either such <br />turn. But vehicular traffic shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles <br />and to pedestrians lawfully within the intersection at the time such sig- <br />nal is exhibited. <br />2. Pedestrians facing the signal may proceed across the street with- <br />in any marked or unmarked crosswalk. <br />(B) Yellow or "Caution" wYen shown following the green or "Go" signal. <br />i* venicular trarniC racing the signal shall stop before enter -ng the <br />nearest crosswalk at the intersection, but if such stop cannot be made in <br />safety a vehicle may be driven cautiously through the intersection. <br />2. Pedestrians facing such signal are thereby advised that there is in- <br />sufficient time to cross the street, and any pedestrian then starting to <br />cross shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles. <br />(C) Red alone or "Stop"* <br />Vehicular m- fic facing the signal shall stop before entering the <br />nearest crosswalk at an intersection or at such other point as may be indiā€¢ <br />oated by a clearly visible line and shall remain standing untill green or <br />"Go" is shown alone. <br />2. Pedestrians shall observe such signals and shall not proceed across <br />the street until such time as the green or "Go" signal is exhibited. Vehi- <br />cles may make right turns against red of "Stop" lights from the- proper icwi <br />lane after coming to a complete stop, provided there is no interference with <br />traffic having the right-of-way= <br />and it shall be unlawful for any person to fail to observe the said signals as <br />herein indicated and defined. <br />Section 3. It shall likewise be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle and the <br />rider of any :1n6- t iK cycle or animal to disregard and fail to observe and <br />comply with any non -automatic STOP sign, Slow sign or other traffic sign or marking <br />that is placed on, upon, by the side of or over any street of the <br />City under and by authority of the City Council; and# no person shall place, main- <br />tsin or display on, upon, byf the side of, over or in view of any street any un- <br />authorized traffic sign or marking which purports to be or resembles an official <br />traffic sign or marking. <br />Section 4. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this <br />
