THE CITY OF <br /> I <br /> ARKANSAS <br /> Resolution#G22 / 9—06 7 D I <br /> A Resolution Supporting the Completion of <br /> Future I-57 <br /> WHEREAS,Congress and the President have,in recent years,enacted laws establishing a <br /> Future I-57 corridor in Arkansas and Missouri;and <br /> WHEREAS,In Arkansas,between I-40 in Little Rock and the Arkansas/Missouri State <br /> Line,122 miles of the Future I-57 corridor have been constructed to Interstate standards with <br /> approximately 40 miles remaining; and <br /> WHEREAS,In Missouri,14 miles of the Future I-57 corridor have been constructed to <br /> Interstate grade,with another 43 miles to nearly-Interstate grade,leaving only 12 miles of two-lane <br /> highway remaining;and <br /> WHEREAS,Interstate 57 covers a total of 397 miles in service between Sikeston,Missouri, <br /> and Chicago,Illinois, (as shown on the map attached); and <br /> WHEREAS,Completion of Future I-57 will help to facilitate economic development <br /> opportunities for our community and our region along this Interstate corridor; and <br /> WHEREAS,Since 1957,Arkansas has invested more than $600 million to complete the 122 <br /> miles of existing Future I-57,which would be roughly one billion dollars in today's economy;and <br /> WHEREAS,Seventy-five percent(75%)of Future I-57 construction miles in Arkansas are <br /> in active use,and completing the last twenty-five percent (25%)wi11 maximize the value of the <br /> existing highway investment for our community and our region; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Batesville, <br /> Arkansas does hereby support and encourage completion of Interstate 57. <br /> DULY ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 28th day of May 2019 <br /> Rick Elumtaugn,Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Denise Johnston, CiJerk <br />
