Henry Ford once said,"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress;working together is <br /> success." <br /> I want each of us to remember that we are all in this together and together we will succeed. We are a strong, <br /> vibrant community and I believe we can overcome this crisis and keep Batesville moving in the right direction. <br /> Mayor Elumbaugh asked the council how they would like to proceed with scheduled <br /> council meeting during the mandatory distancing protocol. After a discussion, <br /> Councilmember Matthews moved that the scheduled 2nd and 4th Tuesday meetings be <br /> suspended and have council meetings on an "as needed" basis as long as the <br /> distancing protocol is in effect. Councilmember Bryant seconded and all voted for. <br /> City Clerk Denise Johnston addressed the council with the current Census information. <br /> She said as of April 13th, the percentage of responses were as follows. US wide — <br /> 48.6%, State of Arkansas — 45.3%, Independence County— 47.6% and the City of <br /> Batesville —47.8%. Ms. Johnston reiterated the importance of everyone completing <br /> their census information. <br /> LIAISON REPORTS <br /> None <br /> COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> Councilmember Matthews encouraged our citizens to follow the guidelines during <br /> these uncertain times with the COVID-19 pandemic. He said even though you may not <br /> feel sick, you can have the Coronavirus for up to 2 weeks with no symptoms. <br /> Therefore, he said, you could be infecting people and not be aware of it. He said <br /> hopefully we will all be able to return to our normal lives soon. <br /> Councilmember Musgrave said that recently a truck got stuck in his back yard, <br /> which happens frequently, and he wanted to praise the City Police Department on their <br /> work and professionalism. He said it turned out the truck was stolen and a police report <br />
