Beller noted that Batesville has been named the sixth safest city on the state. <br />Mayor Elumbaugh thanked Chief Cockrill and his department for a job well done. <br />Chief Cockrill also noted that a local DTF Officer passed away this morning and <br />members of his department were in the escort of the body from the hospital to the <br />funeral home in West Plains, MO. <br />B) ENGINEER’S REPORT <br />City Engineer Damon Johnson addressed the council with his monthly report. He <br />said the sewer line project on College Street is the largest project at this time and <br />will be on going for the next few months. Both plants are running good at this <br />time. Street Department has several projects going. A French drain will be <br />installed at the tennis court soon and the work on the Fitzhugh extension by the <br />hospital is progressing as planned. <br />C) RECOGNITION OF MR. VAN THOMAS FROM WHITE RIVER PLANNING AND <br />DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT <br />Mayor Elumbaugh read a short biography outlining the years of service and <br />contributions that Mr. Van Thomas has made to the office of Executive Director of <br />White River Planning and Development District. Mr. Thomas has made great <br />strides in Economic Development not only in Batesville and Independence County <br />but in the 10 county area in which he served as director for 42 years. Mayor <br />Elumbaugh presented Mr. Thomas with a letter from Governor Asa Hutchinson, a <br />citation from Representative James Sturch and a plaque from the City of <br />Batesville to celebrate his recent retirement.
