RESOLUTION No.41A--0 1-01- t� CITY OF BATESVILLE ARKANSAS A RESOLUTION ALLOWING THE CITY OF BATESVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VOW TO HIRE HEROES PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Batesville's population included 10% veterans according to the US census data in 2010; WHEREAS, post-911 veterans are the focus of the 2011 VOW To Hire Heroes program enacted to assist these veterans in finding gainful employment after completing service to their country; and WHEREAS, the City of Batesville is applying for federal grant funds to hire two new firefighters through the department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS: THAT the Batesville Fire Department will seek, recruit and employ post-911 �r veterans to the extent practical and in compliance and cooperation with all other federal and state hiring policies according to provisions of the VOW To Hire Heroes Act of 2011. THAT In order to participate in theVOW To Hire Heroes 2011 program, the Batesville Fire Department will implement the following strategies: * Establish communication with the local employment security division, Arkansas National Guard Armory staff in Batesville, state veterans service officials and other appropriate organizations to ensure job announcements are available to qualified veterans; * Include in job posting appropriate language as recommended by VOW To Hire Heros; and *Complete appropriate documentation for employer tax benefits according to the Internal Revenue Service if a post-91 1 veteran is hired.
