He said when a utility customer pays their bill using online bill <br /> payments, it usually takes several days for the utility to receive the check. He said most <br /> customers think the payment is immediate but in fact, the bill payment company actually <br /> prints and mails a check on their behalf. If the checks are not received by 5:00 PM on <br /> the 20th of each month, or the first working day after the 20th, a late fee penalty is <br /> automatically added to the account.
