JUNE 10, 2003
The Batesville City Council met in regular session on June 10, at 5:30 PM at the
Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember
Watkins gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers answered
present: Jim Cargill, Robert Ford, Gerald Gaither, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol, Paula
Terrell and Jim Watkins. Councilmember Carpenter was absent. Also present were the
City Clerk Denise Johnston and the City Attorney Scott Stalker.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting.
Councilmember Gaither seconded and all voted for.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda as amended.
Councilmember Cargill seconded and all voted for.
SHERIFF'S REPORT
Chief Deputy Steve Jeffery gave the council the monthly activity sheet for the
Sheriff's Department. They discussed briefly the parking problems at Riverside Park.
Chief Jeffery said they would patrol more and start writing citations for parking
violations.
DRAFT ON REFINING NOISE ORDINANCE AS REQUESTED
The council was given a new draft of a noise ordinance. The council said they
would take the ordinance home to review. The Mayor said he would have it on the next
meeting's agenda for the first reading.
MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Mayor told the council that the fire department needed more money to
purchase sign materials for the newly adopted house numbering ordinance.
Councilmember Watkins moved to purchase more material not to exceed $7,000.00 and
amend the budget at the end of the year. Councilmember Cargill seconded and all voted
for.
The council looked at pictures of the old Marvin Hotel. They asked Code
Enforcement Officer, Chad McClure, to contact Mr. Eddie Lumpkin and ask him what
his immediate plans are for the material that is on the property and report back at the next
meeting.
PAID BILLS REPORT
The council was given a copy of the paid bills report for the month ending
5/31/03.
There being no further business, Councilmember Gaither moved that the meeting
be adjourned. Councilmember Terrell seconded and all voted for.
