HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-03-24 MINUTES OF COUNCIL MARCH 24, 2003 The Batesville City Council met in regular session on March 24, at 5:30 PM at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Ford gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers answered present: Jim Cargill, R.L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Gerald Gaither, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol, Paula Terrell and Jim Watkins. Also present were the City Clerk Denise Johnston. City Attorney Scott Stalker was absent. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Councilmember Cargill seconded and all voted for. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda as amended. Councilmember Watkins seconded and all voted for. REQUEST FROM SHERIFF KEITH BOWERS Sheriff Keith Bowers addressed the council with a request to replace a metro vehicle that was recently totaled in an accident. He said that there was a program in Missouri where they could buy a Missouri State Police vehicle with less than 50,000 miles on them. The Sheriff said the 1999 year models were $10,000, the 2000's were $10,850 and the 2001's were $12,750. State Farm Insurance is giving the City $8,100 for the totaled vehicle plus the cost to replace the equipment and strip a new vehicle. Councilmember Cargill moved for the Sheriff to purchase a 1999 or 2000, which ever would best suit the needs of the City, and Councilmember Pectol seconded. All voted for. SECOND READING FOR NUMBER ORDINANCE Mayor Biard read the ordinance that would require specific numbers to be placed on houses and business within the City of Batesville. After a discussion and a couple of recommended changes, the Mayor said the ordinance would be on the next council agenda for the third and final reading. DISPOSAL OF FIXED ASSETS The Mayor informed the council that a John Deere Mower in the Street (Landscaping) department was being disposed of and would be used for parts. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The council was given a copy of the February 2003 financial statement. COUNCIL COMMENTS The council asked the Mayor to prepare a proposed noise ordinance for the next meeting.
