• BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS
AN ORDINANCE REDISTRICTING WARDS FOR THE
CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS DECLARING AN EMERGENCY,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City of Batesville has the authority to
redistrict the Wards within the City upon a determination that
the people can best be served by changing ward boundaries to
equalize the populations in the various wards pursuant to Ark.
Code Ann Section 14-43-311; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the pattern of
population growth and annexation within the City of Batesville
has created a need to redistrict the wards to equalize the
population and future population growth;
NOW BE IT THEREFORE ORDAINED, that the four (4 ) wards within
the City of Batesville are hereby modified with the boundary
lines as set out herein, as follows:
WARD 1: Ward 1 will be comprised of all of that
land within the City of Batesville lying east of the
center line of St. Louis Street/Batesville Boulevard
and lying south of the center line of Harrison
Street/Highway 69 .
WARD 2: Ward 2 shall consist of all of that land
within the City of Batesville lying north of the center
line of the Missouri Pacific Railroad right of way and
east of Polk Bayou; all of that land lying southeast of
Polk Bayou and west of the center line of St. Louis
Street/Highway 167 North; and all of that land lying
east of the center line of St. Louis Street/Highway 167
North also lying North of the center line of Porter
Street and lying west of the center line of 22nd Street
as that center line would extend due north to the City
limits.
WARD 3: Ward 3 shall be comprised of all of that
land within the City limits of Batesville, Arkansas
lying north and west of Polk Bayou.

WARD 4: Ward 4 shall be comprised of all land
• within the City of Batesville lying south of the
center line of the Missouri Pacific Railroad right of
way, also lying north of the center line of Harrison
Street/Highway 69 and lying east of the center line of
22nd Street and further lying east of the center line
of 22nd Street if it were extended northward to the
City limit; and also that land within the City limits
which lies north of the center line of Harrison Street,
east of the center line of St. Louis Street, south of
the center line of Porter Street, and also lies west of
the center line of 22nd Street.
The wards described herein shall comprise the new wards for
the City of Batesville and will comprise the wards for the next
alderman election held, and in each subsequent election until
further modified by the City Council.
The Council persons who are currently serving in the old
wards shall continue to serve until the new council is formed at
the first regular meeting of the City Council in January, 1995 .
• EMERGENCY CLAUSE. This Ordinance being necessary for the
general safety and welfare of the citizens of Batesville, and
necessary for the orderly administration of the primary and
general elections, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and
this ordinance shall be effective from and after the date of its
passage.
