HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-740-R 1 RESOLUTION # /4/0 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT THE AGENCY STATION AT BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS LOCATED ON THE LINES OF THE MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY NOT BE ELIMINATED. WHEREAS, the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company has filed notice of application with the Arkansas Transportation Commission to eliminate the agenc station at Batesville, Arkansas; and, WHEREAS, the City of Batesville has long been served by that agency station and its personnel; and, WHEREAS, the City of Batesville is currently experiencing rapid geographic hand economic growth with the agency station having a vital role in that growth; I and, WHEREAS, the proposed telephone replacement of the agency station is not an adequate replacement and would inconvenience the citizens of Batesville; and, WHEREAS, the agency station is necessary for the economic preservation of tie City of Batesville and Independence County; and, WHEREAS, the general welfare of the citizens of the City of Batesville will I best be served if the agency station is allowed to remain in operation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILL , ARKANSAS: (1) That the City Council requests, on behalf of all the citizens of Batesville, Arkansas, that the agency station located on the lines of the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Company, be allowed to remain in operation. (2) That the Mayor of the City of Batesville, Arkansas, is authorized to send a copy of this resolution to the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company and the Arkansas Transportation Commission. MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD ) COMPANY ) NOTICE Pursuant to Arkansas Statutes Annotated, Section 73-809 (b) , the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company on February 7, 1980, filed notice of this application to eliminate the agency station at Batesville, Arkansas; and instead to be served by toll-free telephone service .through Newport, Arkansas. Unless within sixty days a Petition signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified electors residing in the city, town, or political subdivision where said station is located, requesting that the agency station be not eliminated and such petition is filed with the Commission, the proposal of the Company will become effective ninety (90) days from the date it filed said notice. .T,NNIE L.
