HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-784-R ■ RESOLUTION # "734 A RESOLUTION TO THE ARKANSAS LEGISLATURE, REQUESTING THAT ACT 364 OF THE 1981 ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY BE REPEALED WHEREAS, Act 364 of 1981 would remove local control over the Fire and Police pension and the current trend has been for more local control and not less ; and WHEREAS, Act 364 of 1981 does not provide for the continuation of the one mill property tax presently levied for the Firemen's Pension Fund and the one mill property tax presently levied for the Policemen's Pension Fund; and WHEREAS, Act 364 of 1981 will force Cities to contribute funds to this pension system by requiring more dollars to be paid out of General Funds at a variable percentage rate of salaries (first year estimates are 11% - 16%) , thus deplet- ing General Funds which could be used to employ additional manpower for our Police and Fire Departments which are now understaffed; and WHEREAS, the General Fund will have to contribute 4% into the current pension funds during 1983 as required by Act 486 of 1981; and WHEREAS, Cities who have wisely administered their current pension plans will be penalized and will have to subsidize those cities whose pension plans have not been properly managed; and WHEREAS, it would be a burden on Cities to operate two pension systems at the same time; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS: That the League sponsor legislation in the 1983 Arkansas General Assembly to repeal Act 364 of 1981.
