R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, construction of a new District 5 Highway Headquarters
in Independence County has allowed the old District Headquarters
facilities in the City of Batesville to become available for
other uses; and
WHEREAS, the lands on which said old District Headquarters
are situated were originally donated to the Highway Department
by the City of Batesville and said lands and buildings located
thereon are readily adaptable to municipal uses; and
WHEREAS, the recent influx of industry to the City of Bates-
ville, and the population gains attendant thereto, have placed a
great strain on the widely separated Municipal facilities now
maintained by the City of Batesville and there is a great need
for centralizing all the departments of the City into one office,
garage, and storage area;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS:
That the Arkansas State Highway Department give every con-
sideration possible toward allowing the City of Batesville to
purchase the old District 5 Highway Headquarters facilities,
without competive bidding, and at a fair apprasial price.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to Hon. Mack Sturgis of the Arkansas State Highway
Department; Hon. Truman Baiter of the State Highway Commission;
and the Hon. Orval E. Faubus, Governor of Arkansas.
