HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-03-24 MINUTES OF COUNCIL MARCH 24, 1998 The Batesville City Council met for its regular meeting on March 24, at 5:30 P.M. at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Insell gave the invocation. Upon roll call, all the council answered present except Councilmember Bone. Also present were the City Clerk and the City Attorney. Councilmember Cargill moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting and Councilmember Gaither seconded. All voted for. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda and Councilmember Insell seconded. All voted for. RECOGNITION OF KATHLEEN BARNS, FARMERS MARKET COMMITTEE Mayor Baird recognized Ms. Kathleen Barns for serving on the Farmers Market Committee from 1996 through 1998. The Mayor presented Ms. Barns with a plaque and City T-shirt. KAY SOUTHERLAND — REGARDING PROPERTY AT #5 ALTA VISTA DRIVE Ms. Kay Southerland and Mr. James Ed Bechdoldt addressed the council regarding the parking of vehicles at the property located at#5 Alta Vista Drive. Ms. Southerland said she was going to ask the planning commission to re-zone a portion of land behind her home where she can make a road and park the vehicles. Mayor Biard said he did not think the planning commission would grant the re-zoning and instructed Ms. Southerland to have all the vehicles removed from the property by Friday, March 27. Ms. Southerland and Mr. Bechdoldt said they would have the vehicles removed. CONSIDER AN ORDINANCE REGARDING BUILDING CODE INSPECTIONS — THIRD READING Mayor Biard read the ordinance that would adopt various standard codes relating to inspection activities of the City. Councilmember Gaither moved to adopt the ordinance and Councilmember Pectol seconded. The roll call count was 7 for and 0 against. The ordinance was given #98-3-1. Councilmember Carpenter moved to adopt the emergency clause and Councilmember Cargill seconded. The roll call count was 7 for and 0 against. CONSIDER A RESOLUTION SETTING INSPECTION FEES FOR THE CITY OF BATESVILLE Mayor Biard read a resolution setting inspection fees for plumbing, electrical, heating, venting air-conditioning, and refrigeration inspections for the City of Batesville. Mr. Chad McClure and Mr. Paul Mitchell, inspectors for the City said that the new rates would bring the City in line with the County rates but would still be lower than most city inspections. Councilmember Cargill moved to adopt the new rates and Councilmember Carpenter seconded. All voted for. The resolution was given #98-3-1 REPORT ON LYON STREET PROPERTY Chad McClure reported that he issued a wrecking permit for the property on Lyon Street. He said he went by the property today and they were in the process of demolishing the house and removing it from the property. He said they were about a third of the way through the project. NAME FOR THE FOUNTAIN PROJECT AT ST. LOUIS AND BOSWELL STREETS Mayor Biard recommended naming the fountain project at St. Louis and Boswell Streets "Veterans Memorial Plaza". Councilmember Cargill moved to name the plaza with the Mayor's request and Councilmember Gaither seconded. All voted for. CEMETERY RESOLUTION The council considered a cemetery resolution for Robert and Louise Scheer, certificate #98-83-1, for $200.00. Councilmember Cargill moved to accept the resolution and Councilmember Pectol seconded. All voted for. There being no further business, Councilmember Mitchum moved that the meeting be adjourned.
