HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-02-23 MINUTES OF COUNCIL FEBRUARY 23, 1999 The Batesville City Council met for its regular meeting on February 23, at 5:30 P.M. at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Gaither gave the invocation. Upon roll call, all the council answered present. Also present were the City Clerk and the City Attorney. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Councilmember Insell seconded and all voted for. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda and Councilmember Cargill seconded. All voted for. DISCUSSION WITH SHERIFF ON VANDALISM Independence County Sheriff Ron Webb, Chief Deputy Brian Everett and Captain Gene O'Brien addressed the council regarding vandalism at Riverside Park. The Sheriff said he had hoped to have an arrest by today for the recent vandalism at the Park. There were eye witnesses to the vandalism and he said an arrest should be made soon. The Sheriff said they were going to purchase a surveillance camera to use at various locations in the City. Councilmember Ford recommended putting big boulders in the grassy area to help prevent any further vandalism. MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS The bids are in for the two roadside radar-monitoring units in the amount of$19,889.99. The grant, which we have applied for, is in the amount of $16,369.00 which leaves the City with a share of$3,520.99. The Mayor said he has received a letter stating that the grant has been awarded but we have not yet received the money. Mayor Biard said he would have more information at the next council meeting as to when the grant should be received by the City. There being no further business, Councilmember Mitchum moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilmember seconded and all voted for. JOE M. BIARD, MAYOR DENISE M. JOHNSTON, CITY CLERK
