HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-01-23 MINUTES OF COUNCIL JANUARY 23, 2001 The Batesville City Council met on January 23, at 5:30 PM at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Watkins gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmember answered present; Jim Cargill, R. L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Gerald Gaither, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol and Jim Watkins. Councilmember Dana Bone was absent. Also present were the City Clerk Denise Johnston and City Attorney Scott Stalker. Councilmember Cargill moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Councilmember Ford seconded and all voted for. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda and Councilmember Watkins seconded. All voted for. PUBLIC HEARING ON SEWER RATE INCREASE Mayor Biard officially opened the floor for a public hearing to discuss the ordinance to increase the sewer rates. After a few comments from the public and the council, the Mayor closed the public hearing. SECOND READING OF THE ORDINANCE TO INCREASE SEWER RATES Mayor Biard read the sewer rate increase ordinance for the second reading. The ordinance will be placed on the agenda for the next meeting for the third and final reading. STREET DEDICATION REQUEST FOR SAWMILL ADDITION Councilmember Carpenter introduced an ordinance that would accept the extension of Mill Run Trial, Trestle Court and Equity Court located in the Sawmill Subdivision into the City's Street Maintenance Program. Mayor Biard read the ordinance in full and Councilmember Ford moved to suspend the rules and place the ordinance on second reading by title only. Councilmember Carpenter seconded and the roll call count was 7 for and 0 against. The Mayor read the ordinance for the second reading. Councilmember Ford moved to further suspend the rules and place the ordinance third reading by title only. Councilmember Watkins seconded and the roll call count was 7 for and 0 against. The Mayor read the ordinance for the final reading and Councilmember Cargill moved to adopt the ordinance. Councilmember Carpenter seconded and the roll call count was 7 for and 0 against. The ordinance was given #2001-1-3. Councilmember Carpenter moved to adopt the emergency clause and Councilmember Cargill seconded. All voted for. CEMETERY RESOLUTION The council considered a cemetery resolution for Jean Bearden for $100.00, certificate #2001-23-1. Councilmember Watkins moved to accept the resolution and Councilmember Gaither seconded. All voted for. There being no further business, Councilmember Mitchum moved that the meeting be adjourned.
