JULY 24, 2001
The Batesville City Council met in regular session on July 24, at 5:30 PM at the
Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Ford
gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers answered present:
Jim Cargill, R.L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol and Jim Watkins.
Councilmembers Dana Bone and Gerald Gaither were absent. Also present were the City
Clerk Denise Johnston and the City Attorney Scott Stalker.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting.
Councilmember Pectol seconded and all voted for.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda. Councilmember
Cargill seconded and all voted for.
REQUEST BY SHERIFF DAN JOHNSON
Independence County Sheriff Dan Johnson and Chief Deputy John Hilburn
addressed the council to request additional funds for the metro division of the Sheriff's
Department. Sheriff Johnson said because of high gasoline prices and unexpected repairs
to vehicles the metro budget is over budget mainly in the vehicle expenses category.
The Sheriff asked the council to appropriate an additional $26,000.00 to line item 550-
51-668, vehicles expenses, to finish out the remainder of the year. After a discussion,
Councilmember Watkins moved to appropriate the additional funds as requested and
Councilmember Cargill seconded. All voted for.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The council was given a copy of the financial statement for the month ending
June 30, 2001.
MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mayor Biard ask Councilmembers Cargill, Ford and Pectol to serve on a
committee to study the incinerator property and what should be done with the existing
building. All accepted their appointments.
There being no further business, Councilmember Mitchum moved that the
meeting be adjourned. Councilmember Watkins seconded and all voted for.
