HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-03-12 MINUTES OF COUNCIL MARCH 12, 2002 The Batesville City Council met in regular session on March 12, at 5:30 PM at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember Watkins gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers answered present: Dana Bone, Jim Cargill, R.L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Gerald Gaither, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol and Jim Watkins. Also present were the City Clerk Denise Johnston and the City Attorney Scott Stalker. Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Councilmember Watkins seconded and all voted for. Councilmember Ford moved to adopt the prepared agenda and Councilmember Cargill seconded. All voted for. REPORT FROM ARTS COUNCIL Ms. Renee Ramsey, Interim Director of the Area Arts Council, addressed the council regarding the status of the Marvin Hotel. Ms. Ramsey said the Arts Council just signed a 6 month lease on the property and hopes to begin the clean up on April 6. They are waiting on help from the Department of Correction. She also said that Preston Grace has offered his property across the street from the hotel to place the large rock until a permanent place can be found to store them. She said the helpers from the Corrections unit will only be able to work on weekends but they are hoping for a vast improvement to the property within the next 6 months. SHERIFF'S REPORT The council was given a copy of Sheriff's Departmental Activity and Status Report for February, 2002. DISPOSAL OF FIXED ASSETS The council was given a copy of the disposal request from the Metro department to dispose of 6 General Electric Portable Radios. MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS Mayor Biard told the council that the bids were opened for the river walk project. The low bid was from Cando, Inc. out of Morrilton, Arkansas. The bid was $351,687.50. The Mayor said the project should start around the first of May and be completed the first of September. PRESENTATION TO COUNCILMEMBER DANA BONE Mayor Biard presented Councilmember Dana Bone with a plaque for her service on the City Council. The plaque recognized her years of service from January 1, 1993 to March 12, 2002. Ms. Bone said a few words of thanks to the city department heads, city employees and also mentioned several accomplishments that have taken place while she served on the council. Ms. Bone is moving out of state. Mayor Biard informed the council that after this meeting, a vacancy will have occurred. The Mayor said that he will recommend Mr. Pat Lea to fill Ms. Bone's position at the next meeting. PAID BILLS REPORT The council was given a copy of the paid bills report for February, 2002. There being no further business, Councilmember Mitchum moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilmember Watkins seconded and all voted for. JOE M. BIARD, MAYOR DENISE M. JOHNSTON, CITY CLERK
