TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ON HARRISON STREET/ARKANSAS HIGHWAY 69 EAST"

WHEREAS, several residents of the City have expressed concern about the number of traffic
accidents occurring on Harrison Street/Arkansas Highway 69 between Gap Road/Arkansas Highway 394
and Mack Street/Arkansas Highway 233 in Moorefield, and
WHEREAS, the western portion of this section of Harrison Street/Arkansas Highway 69 lies
within the Batesville City limits while the eastern most section lies within the Moorefield City limits, and
WHEREAS, prior to June 2015 the Independence County Sheriffs Office provided police
protection to the City of Batesville under an Inter-local Agreement, and
WHEREAS, in June of 2015 the City of Batesville formed its own police department and has
provided herein the accident data from June 2015 until January 2017 within that portion of Harrison
Street lying within the city limits of the City of Batesville, and
WHEREAS, during the period from June 25, 2015 until January 11, 2017 there has been eighteen
(18)traffic accidents between 3777 Harrison Street and 4440 Harrison Street, and
WHEREAS, thirteen(13) of these accidents have occurred at the intersection of Thunderbird
Drive and Harrison Street, one (1) at the intersection of Quail Valley Drive and Harrison Street, two (2) at
the intersection of Weaver Lane and Harrison Street, and two (2) at other locations, and
WHEREAS, an analysis of Independence County Sheriff s Office data and the data of the
Arkansas State Police would likely contain additional accident reports within this section of Harrison
Street/Arkansas Highway 69.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Batesville, Arkansas that:
1. The City of Batesville hereby requests that the Arkansas Highway & Transportation
Department's Planning Division conduct a safety study of that portion of Harrison
Street/Arkansas Highway 69 between Gap Road/Arkansas Highway 394 and Mack
Street/Arkansas Highway 233 in Moorefield to determine the appropriate steps to reduce
the number of accidents within this section of highway.
This RESOLUTION adopted this 28th day of February,2017.
