HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-03-02-R A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE,ARKANSAS CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION OF A HOTEL ON CITY OWNED PROPERTY LOCATED ON THE WHITE RIVER ADJACENT TO RIVERSIDE PARK RESOLUTIONd0 I.7-o3-o0 --,h> WHEREAS, the City of Batesville owns a certain parcel of land consisting of 2.63 acres more or less (subject to a 0.58 acre recreation easement leaving approximately 2.05 acres of useable land) immediately adjacent to the White River and Batesville's Riverside Park, and WHEREAS, said parcel is not part of any other Outdoor Recreation Grant Program of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism for Riverside Park which might limit its use, and WHEREAS, said parcel is subject to a 359.6' recreation easement immediately adjacent to and along the left bank of the White River extending 70' inland from the top of the rip rap (approximately 0.58 acres) and is used for the Riverwalk Trail along the river, and WHEREAS, said 2.63 parcel of land has been leased to the White River Firefighters Association for the express purpose of operating a firefighting training facility, and WHEREAS,the White River Firefighters Association has relocated its training facility to the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville Campus and has vacated the premises, effectively terminating their lease, and WHEREAS,residents have expressed interest in further economic development along the river to attract tourists, and WHEREAS,the parcel appears large enough to support the development of a hotel on the property, and WHEREAS,the new Fitzhugh Park Community & Aquatics Center will attract hundreds of people for sporting events, concerts, meetings, swim meets and other events creating a need for additional hotel accommodations, and WHEREAS,the City believes that the development of a hotel on the White River will benefit our community economically and be an asset to our City. NOW THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Batesville, Arkansas that: Section 1. The City of Batesville hereby offers the above-mentioned property for a long-term lease for the specific purpose of the development and construction of a hotel.
