HomeMy WebLinkAbout971,%r ORDINANCE # ` 7 I AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING THE OFFICE OF CHIEF OF POLICE AND POSITION OF ASSISTAP,ri CHIEF OF POLICE, INVESTIGATOR, ALL SERGEANT POSITIONS, SENIOR PATROLME11 AND ALL OTHER PATROL,1EN POSITIONS; ABOLISHING THE PAY SCHEDULE FOR EACH OF THE ABOVE POSITIONS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AivD FOR OTHER PURPOSES: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section l: The office of Chief of Police of the Batesville Police Department is hereby abolished. Section 2: The following positions and offices of the Batesville Police Department are hereby abolished: (a) Assistant Chief of Police, (b) Investigator, (c) All Sergeant positions, (d) Senior patrolmen (e) All other patrolmen positions. Section 3: The pay schedules for each of the positions described in Sections 1 and 2 of this ordinance are hereby abolished. Section 4: Any ordinance, parts of ordinances or any council action in conflict with the provisions herein are hereby repealed. Section 5: The City Council of the City of Batesville, Arkansas has determined that the offices andpositions above described and the salaries appropriated to those positions are no longer needed due to the fact that on this date the City Council has adopted an Interlocal Agreement by Ordinance # whereby Independence County and the City of Batesville will pool their resources and establish a Metropolitan Branch of the Independence County Sheriff's Office; that due to said agreement the above described positions and; salaries are economically unjustified; that said agreement will provide greater law enforcement protection for the citizens of the city at a reduced cost and is therefore in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Batesville. Therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage in order to preserve the public peace, health and safety.
