HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-09-02 • CITY OF BATESVILLE ARKANSAS ORDINANCE NO. 2011--Oct AN ORDINANCE TO ALLOW LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO DISCHARGE FIREARMS DURING TRAINING AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS,the Batesville Municipal Code allows duly elected or appointed law enforcement officers or people employed as law enforcement officers to discharge a firearm in the City of Batesville in the line of duty; and WHEREAS,the City of Batesville recognizes that it is necessary for duly elected or appointed law enforcement officers or people employed as law enforcement officers to discharge firearms for training purposes periodically; and WHEREAS, local law enforcement officers have been forced to travel in order to partake in training involving firearm discharge; and WHEREAS, should the opportunity present itself for local law enforcement to attain a • safe, convenient and suitable facility at which to undertake firearm training within the City of Batesville,the City wishes to enable and encourage that activity; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the public that law enforcement officers be properly and sufficiently trained and proficient in firearm use and safety. NOW,THEREFORE be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Batesville, Arkansas: Section 1. It shall not be unlawful for any duly elected or appointed law enforcement officer or person employed as a law enforcement officer to fire or discharge a firearm within the City of Batesville during training exercises approved by the Independence County Sheriff's Office.
