NEW BUSINESS
A) CONSIDER PORPERTY FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Police Chief Alan Cockrill, Lieutenant John Scarbrough and Sergeant Rick Davis
came forward to speak about a possible new location for the Batesville Police
Department. Recently, commercial property located at 51 Industrial Drive
became available. There is a little over 5 acers of land, 4,000 sq. ft. of office
space, a large shop and approximately 1 acer of asphalt parking available. Chief
Cockrill said this would be a good investment for his department and could fulfill
his space needs. Chief Cockrill has already had some sponsorship commitments
from First Community Bank and Bad Boys Inc. to help with the cost. Chief
Cockrill also handed out a sample of his shift assignments that would show how
his officers are spaced across town on each shift. He said he knew there would
be concerns about the new office being located at the north end of the city and
wanted the Council to be aware that this move would not decrease police
presence in town. The property is listed for $625,000.00, however the owners
have indicated they would be willing to donate $125,000.00 for a tax write-off,
leaving the City to pay $500,000.00. Councilmember Pool made a motion to
authorize the Mayor and Chief Cockrill to negotiate the purchase of the property.
Councilmember T. Bryant seconded the motion and the roll call was 8 for and 0
against.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Councilmember T. Bryant moved that the
meeting be adjourned. Councilmember Hinkle seconded and all voted for.
