CITY OF BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO NEGOTIATE WITH
INDEPENDENCE COUNTY AND RURAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN ORDER TO ALLOW
THE CITY TO CONTINUE PERFORMING DISPATCH SERVICES
WHEREAS, the City of Batesville,Arkansas, terminated its participation in its Interlocal
Agreement with Independence County by Ordinance adopted on December 17, 2014;
WHEREAS, according to the terms of the Interlocal Agreement, the parties thereto will
no longer be bound by its terms sometime in June of 2015, depending upon when Independence
County receives its official notice;
WHEREAS, pursuant to the terms of the Interlocal Agreement, the City provides dispatch
services for the Independence County Sheriff's Department;
WHEREAS, the City also provides dispatch services to the Independence County Office
of Emergency Management and local rural fire departments;
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that dissolution of the Interlocal Agreement may cause
uncertainty within those agencies currently partnered with Batesville in regards to dispatch; and
WHEREAS, after the dissolution of the Interlocal Agreement, the City wishes to continue
to perform dispatch duties for Independence County and local rural fire departments in the area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Batesville,
Arkansas:
Section 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into negotiations allowing the
City of Batesville to continue to perform dispatch services for Independence County and local
rural fire departments, regardless of the existence of the Interlocal Agreement.
