RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS
WHEREAS White River Health System is the premier provider of health care in Batesville,
Independence County, and all of North-Central Arkansas.
WHEREAS White River Health System enjoys an impeccable reputation as a health-care
provider and is a cornerstone of the Batesville community.
WHEREAS White River Health System has proven that it is committed to the continued
growth and development of the City of Batesville and to the best interests of the City of Batesville.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville is dedicated to ensuring that its deserving citizens have
access to the best health care opportunities possible.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville is economically diverse with the agriculture, poultry,
chemical, automotive, electronics,timber, and manufacturing industries all taking up residence in the
city.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville is home to federal, state, and county government.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville is home to one of the best liberal-arts colleges in America,
Lyon College, and to the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville,which have both
expressed their desire to work with White River Health System and UAMS through a North-Central
Arkansas Area Health Education Center in Batesville to better meet the health care education needs
of the region, and to expand their opportunities for education of health professionals.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville has a population of over 9,000 citizens.
WHEREAS the City of Batesville has been blessed with an abundance of community-minded
citizens,including White River Medical System,whom are committed to the betterment of their city,
county, region, and state.
WHEREAS there is a tremendous need in North-Central Arkansas to enhance the quality of
health profession education;to increase the availability of academic resources for health professionals;
to retain Arkansas graduates of health profession schools;to improve the supply and distribution of a
primary health care providers in the region; to increase the number of individuals from the region to
enter health care careers; to supply professional support and continuing education for health care
providers in the region; to promote cooperation and coordination among the local communities,
health care providers, educational institutions, and health related organizations;and to provide quality
health care services and educational programs to the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED that the City of Batesville is committed to
working with White River Health System and UAMS through an Area Health Education Center in
Batesville to help better meet the above-stated health profession education needs of North-Central
Arkansas and to improve the quality of health care for all of its citizens.
