CONSIDER SMOKING ORDINANCE <br /> Councilmember Mynatt introduced an ordinance that would prohibit the <br /> use of tobacco products on all parks and recreational areas owned and leased by <br /> the city. Mayor Biard read the ordinance in full. The council discussed the <br /> ordinance and opened the floor for discussion. Councilmember Mynatt moved to <br /> suspend the rules for the second and third readings. Councilmember Carpenter <br /> seconded and the roll call count was 6 for and 1 (Smart) against. <br /> Councilmember Mynatt moved to adopt the ordinance and Councilmember <br /> Carpenter seconded. The roll call was 3 (Krug, Matthews and Mynatt) for and 4 <br /> (Carpenter, Cooke, Smart and Terrell) against. The motion failed. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> DETAILS ON THE NEW ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY <br /> Mr. Herman Lee addressed the council. The council was given a drawing <br /> of the new animal control facility. <br /> DETAILS ON THE SALES TAX PROPOSAL — FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> Fire Chief Danny Russell and Assistant Chief Brent Gleghorn addressed <br /> the council to explain the fire department's sales tax proposal. The fire <br /> department is accruing signatures from registered voters in the city limits of <br /> Batesville to place a 1/8 cent city sales tax proposal on the November General <br /> Election. The tax has a 5 year sunset clause. <br /> EXECUTIVE SESSION <br /> Councilmember Smart moved to go into executive session. <br /> Councilmember Matthews seconded and all voted for.
