MINUTES OF COUNCIL <br /> NOVEMBER 24, 1998 <br /> The Batesville City Council met in regular session on November 24, at <br /> 5:30 P.M. at the Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. <br /> Councilmember Insell gave the invocation. Upon roll call, all the council <br /> answered present. The City Clerk was also present. <br /> Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the last meeting. <br /> Councilmember Gaither seconded and all voted for. <br /> Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda and <br /> Councilmember Mitchum seconded. All voted for. <br /> PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING THE CONDEMNATION OF THE LANDER'S <br /> THEATER BUILDING <br /> Mayor Biard officially opened the meeting for a public hearing regarding <br /> the condemnation of the Lander's Theater building located on Main Street. The <br /> floor was opened for discussion. There being no discussion, the public meeting <br /> was closed. <br /> TOBACCO FREE COALITION PRESENTATION <br /> A large group supporting the Tobacco Free Coalition attended the council <br /> meeting. Ms. Amanda Roberts spoke on behalf of the group. The group showed <br /> a short video regarding restaurants with non-smoking policies. An ordinance that <br /> would establish smoke-free areas within the city limits of Batesville was <br /> introduced by Councilmember Carpenter. Mayor Biard read the ordinance in full. <br /> The coalition had approximately 350 support letters. Several members of the <br /> group spoke on behalf of the ordinance.
