MINUTES OF COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 13, 2001
The Batesville City Council met on February 13, at 5:30 PM at the
Municipal Building. Mayor Joe Biard presided over the meeting. Councilmember
Pectol gave the invocation. Upon roll call the following Councilmembers
answered present; Dana Bone, Jim Cargill, R. L. Carpenter, Robert Ford, Gerald
Gaither, Jim Mitchum, Jerry Pectol and Jim Watkins. Also present was the City
Clerk Denise Johnston. City Attorney Scott Stalker was absent.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the minutes from the previous
meeting. Councilmember Pectol seconded and all voted for.
Councilmember Ford moved to approve the prepared agenda and
Councilmember Cargill seconded. All voted for.
TIME REQUESTED BY SHERIFF DAN JOHNSON
Independence County Sheriff Dan Johnson and Chief Deputy John
Hilburn gave the council a copy of a Departmental Activity & Status Report for
the month of January 2001. Chief Deputy Hilburn asked the council to consider a
resolution that would authorize the financing of certain equipment to be used by
the City of Batesville. Because of the passage of Amendment One on the 2000
ballot, cities and counties can borrow money for the purpose of purchasing
equipment as long as the note is paid back within 5 years. Jan Smith with White
River Planning and Development briefly explained the new act. Chief Hilburn
said the county is going to purchase 4 new cars and equipment for the cars
which will cost approximately $100,000. He is asking the City to do the same.
