Fire Chief Brent Gleghorn and Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Painter addressed the council to review and discuss the bids received on a 2016 Quint fire truck. Chief Gleghorn said the truck is a Quint style which is a multi-operational truck. The department will trade in either their 1992 or 1996 pumper truck. The bids received were $597,396.00 from Rosenbauer and $718,509.00 from Sunbelt E1 Fire. The Chief said the bid from Rosenbauer did not meet all the specifications. He said there were some options on the Sunbelt bid that they could remove in order to help lower the cost. Councilmember Shetron asked if they knew why they only received two bids and could it possibly be because the bid specifications were written so only Sunbelt could meet them. Chief Gleghorn said they did use specs provided by Sunbelt but that should not stop others from submitting a bid. He said if another company, for example, could not provide a 78' aluminum ladder but could bid a 76' aluminum ladder that would be acceptable and would not disqualify the bid. The truck will be paid for out of the county '/2 sales and Act 833 funds. With financing they should be able to have the truck paid for in about 4 '/2 years. Councilmember Bryant asked how much the department had paid out on repairs and maintenance on the 92 and 96 pumpers. Asst. Chief Painter said he has all that information at the fire station and will get the council a list of the repairs. Chief Gleghorn told the council of all the safety features on the Quint truck including lights on the ladder so you can see better at night. Councilmember Beller said although he is all about safety for the department employees he also wants to get the best deal for the tax payers as well as for the fire department. After more discussion, Mayor Elumbaugh recommended that the Chief and Assistant Chief meet with the City's Public Safety
